A little bit about the Vineyards we visit
- Kumeu River Wines are pioneers in New Zealand winemaking since 1944. specialize in producing Estate Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Methode Traditionelle from grapes grown on their own ten Kumeu and Huapai Vineyards. Mate’s barrique fermented Chardonnay is considered one of the best wines in the country. After gaining his bachelors degree in Oenological Science in Australia, the wine maker Michael Brajkovich MW became New Zealand’s first Master of Wine and has been a Chief Judge of the Air New Zealand Wine Competition.
- Soljans Wines Established in 1937 produce Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and a small amount of Pinotage from their Kumeu Vineyard. As well there is Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from Marlborough and Cabernet Blends and Syrah from Hawkes Bay. Their coveted sparkling Muscat is always popular on a hot summer afternoon and their Tawny Port is one of the best in New Zealand and fabulous in winter.
- West Brook Wines are pioneers in New Zealand winemaking since 1935. They specialize in producing Estate Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Malbec and form their gower in Marlborough Saivignon. Blanc and Riesling. Their Vineyard in Ararimu Road is liely the most picturesque in The region. They have an indoor and alfresco area for turored tastings and wine flights for pople thatc might like to picnic in the spectaculare grounds. They and sell and array of cheese and antipasto platters as well a a sexltion of gourmet pizzas.
- The Hunting Lodge Winery is a great place to chill, taste some wine or order a wood fired Pizza. Four of their wines are served in a wooden tasting paddle with a choice of Sauvgnon Blanc, Chardonnay, Albarino, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Syrah. They also have an extensive seletion of tap and bottleed kraft beer and if you’re hungry there is an excellent wood fired pizza oven and antipasto snack menu to sate your palate
